For 200 years, Zanzibar was under the

control of the Sultan of Oman, growing

to become a principal centre for the

ivory and slave trade around the middle

of the 19th century. Its importance was

such that the Omani capital was moved

here from Muscat. This 12-day itinerary

travels to Stone Town in Zanzibar to

retrace the legacy of Omani rule, before

continuing to Oman to explore today’s

capital city of Muscat, fishing villages

along the coast, the desert dunes of Sharqiya Sands and Nizwa on the edge of

the Hajar mountains.
