The areas of west and southern Iceland incorporate a host of natural wonders and stunning scenery to explore, all shaped by the country’s most powerful natural phenomena, its€tive volcanoes and vast glaciers. From the Westman Islands, known as the ’Pompeii of the north’, to the Skaftafell National Park, part of the largest national park in Europe, the Eyjafjallajokull glacier and the Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon, these competing forces of fire and ice have shaped and carved the landscape of Iceland. There is also a wealth of Icelandic history to explore as you travel through part of the Icelandic heartlands of Reykjavik and Thingvellir, the site of the world’s oldest still-existing parliament established in 930AD and the meeting point of the North American and European tectonic plates. This non-exclusive 6-day group itinerary explores some of the main natural and historical attractions of both western and southern Iceland.
