As one of the first European countries to embrace Christianity, Georgia has a host of unique churches and monasteries that have survived the rise and fall of numerous empires over the centuries, as well as the region’s harsh climatic conditions. This 9-day itinerary explores some of Georgia’s most renowned monuments, including the cave monasteries of Uplistsikhe and Vardzia, as well as the ancient city of Mtskheta and the rock-hewn monastery of David Gareja. This private journey focuses on the southern and central regions of the country, where most of the religious sites are located.
