Discover Iceland with the flexibility of travelling with your own vehicle. Circumnavigate the country on the iconic Route 1, completed in 1974 to mark 1,100 years of settlement, leaving the highway to explore some of the more remote and less travelled parts of the island. This 11-day self-drive itinerary incorporates both the historical and natural sites of the country, from the remains at Thingvellir and Reykholt, to the southern and eastern coastlines featuring the likes of Mount Hekla, the Vatnajokull glacier, remote fjords and remote fishing villages. Cross northern Iceland via the stunning Lake Myvatn and the northern capital of Akureyri before heading to Reykjavik via the wild and beautiful Snaefellsnes peninsula.
