The remotes of South Greenland are a wilderness of Viking ruins and dramatic geography, all set aglow by the nightly presence of the Midnight Sun. It’s all showcased across stays in two frontier villages, where you’ll enjoy hearty dinners, the guided services of a local expert and a pair of unique trips. In fact, while transfers are included throughout the itinerary, your fjord iceberg cruise and helicopter flight are real highlights. It’s the chance to get a true sense of the region’s desolate scale, while optional hikes and glacier excursions offer the chance to explore further. It’s all bookended by a pair of stays in Iceland’s buzzy capital.
Day 1: UK/Reykjavik
Flying out to the Icelandic capital, an included transfer will bring on to your central accommodation. Its contemporary, Scandi-chic rooms – housed in a trio of 18th-century buildings – make it the perfect introduction to Reykjavik’s unique contrasts. In fact, after you’ve finished admiring the city’s colourfully historic houses, be sure to check out the thriving contemporary arts scene that plays out over galleries and design houses alike. The Hallgrimskirkja church is a special highlight for its ultra-modernist architecture, while the Saga Museum brings you right back to the time of the Vikings.
Day 2: Narsarsuaq
Making the short journey to Reykjavik’s Domestic Airport, you’ll fly out to Greenland’s Narsarsuaq. On arrival, you’ll be met by your Arctic Adventure guide for a tour of this pretty village – a frontier settlement set between a spectacular valley and fjord. It all serves as a scenic backdrop for a range of optional excursions, with highlights including an iceberg cruise and a boat trip out to Erik the Red’s Viking ruins – the farm built over a thousand years ago by Greenland’s first settler. You’ll also be transferred to your cosy accommodation, where you’ll enjoy a buffet dinner informed by local ingredients.
Stay: Hotel Narsarsuaq
Days 3-4: Narsaq
After breakfast, an included transfer will see you to the pier for your cruise along Eriksfjord. Passing the rolling hills that best characterise southern Greenland, you’ll arrive at Narsaq, where you’ll be again met by an Arctic Adventure guide for a tour of the village. Strolling past lush kitchen gardens, you’ll spot horses and sheep before centring on the Norse longhouse, thought to be Greenland’s first settlement. Then, over the next two days, you’ll have ample opportunity to explore in further detail. Optional hikes and cruises bring you out into green river valleys, high mountains and ice-filled fjords; the Inuit remains of the Dyrnæs Peninsula are a particular favourite. It all ends with an included farewell dinner on the last night.
Stay: Hotel Narsaq
Day 5: Narsaq to Narsarsuaq
There’s time, this morning, for a final coffee with your guide to talk over your experiences in Greenland. You’ll then be treated to a true trip highlight – a helicopter flight back to Narsarsuaq. The chance to appreciate Greenland’s remote wilds from the air is a true once-in-a-lifetime experience, showcasing its dramatic peaks and fjord troughs. This being the Arctic, however, it is weather dependent, but the alternative – a cruise back through the ice-filled fjord system – is just as impressive. You’ll then end the day back in cosy Hotel Narsarsuaq.

Day 6: Reykjavik
You’ll have this morning at leisure to enjoy breakfast before an included transfer brings you to the airport for your flight back to Reykjavik.
