Swedish Lapland’s inspiring landscape lends itself to thrilling bespoke experiences, including nights spent in luxury tree houses or reclining upon beds carved beautifully out of ice, as well as husky sledding or reindeer tours through Scandinavia’s most fascinating national parks. During the winter months, this is also one of the world’s best places to view the Northern Lights. This seven-day tour has them all.
Day 1: Luleå / Treehotel
Fly to Luleå, a pretty coastal city in Swedish Lapland and transfer to Treehotel, which is located in the forested slopes of Harads near the Lule River valley, 100 kilometres northwest of Luleå. Each room at this award-winning hotel is unique, designed by Scandinavia’s leading architects, and draped elegantly around the trees of the hotel’s grounds. Choose between The Cabin, The UFO, The Blue Cone, The Bird’s Nest and The Mirror Cube, and after settling in and marvelling at the accommodation, explore the equally striking surroundings and later enjoy a typical Swedish dinner at the hotel restaurant. Keep your eyes on the sky in case the Northern Lights decide to take a turn.
Meals: Dinner included
Days 2-3: ICEHOTEL
After breakfast you’ll travel from one iconic hotel to another, taking the train across the Arctic Circle to Kiruna and transferring to the world-famous ICEHOTEL. You’ll spend your first night staying in an Ice Room (speak with us about upgrading to a Deluxe Room or one of the intricately carved Art or Winter Suites), wrapped in a thermal sleeping bag beneath a tactile cover of reindeer skin rugs. The hotel, which is built from scratch each year, is a sightseeing spectacular itself, so take a tour, sip an ice-cold drink at the Ice Bar or join one of many activities on offer, including a wilderness dinner and ice sculpture classes. You’ll spend your second night in one of the ICEHOTEL’s ‘warm’ rooms, which offer conventional cosy beds.
Meals: Breakfast included
Days 4-6: Bjorkliden
Once again board the train and head north, this time to the town of Björkliden which is regarded as one of the best places in Scandinavia to see the Northern Lights. Check into Hotel Fjallet, a 4-star mountainside ski hotel, where you’ll spend the next three nights. During your stay here you’ll have time to explore the great Arctic surrounds, with husky sledding and snowmobile safaris on offer, as well as excellent downhill runs and cross-country skiing routes. You’ll also have the chance to visit the Aurora Sky Station in Abisko National Park, a high altitude base perfectly located for viewing the Northern Lights.
Meals: Half board basis included
Day 7: Kiruna
After breakfast, transfer to Kiruna Airport for your flight home.
Meals: Breakfast included
