Journey to the frontier town of Kirkenes in northern Norway where you'll spend four days exploring this stunning winter wilderness on the shores of the Barents Sea near the borders of Finland and Russia.
Kirkenes, near the Finnish and Russian borders, is home to the world’s most northerly snow/ice hotel. Now in its tenth season, it is a firm fixture on the adventure travel circuit, with the resident ruminants of Gabba Reindeer Park, and excellent opportunities for Northern Lights spotting. A host of winter activities are on offer, including husky sledding.
Day 1: Arrive Kirkenes
Fly in to Kirkenes via Oslo and transfer to the SnowHotel. A welcome drink at the Ice Bar and tour of the hotel are followed by a sumptuous 3-course dinner by the open fire, before you retire for an unforgettable night – snug within thermal clothing and sleeping bag – in one of the freshly sculpted boutique Ice suites, surrounded by stunning frozen furniture and art.
Days 2-3: Kirkenes
For the next two nights transfer to a cosy Gamme Cabin, designed by Swiss architects in the style of traditional Sami hunting and fishing huts, but with tall one-way glass windows from which to gaze out onto the night sky. A night-time Northern Lights by Snowmobile tour is included, and your days can be filled with a fabulous choice of optional excursions, including husky sledding.
Day 4: Depart Kirkenes
After a satisfying breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport for your return flight back to the UK.
