Take an overnight flight from the UK into Cape Town – you’ll arrive in South Africa bright and early to make the most of your first day here. After touching down, check in to the award-winning Kensington Palace hotel, your€commodation for the next few nights. Then head out to explore. Spend the first days of your South African adventure discovering the cultural charms, trendy haunts and natural beauties of Cape Town. Flit between Bree Street’s boutiques and wander the Zeitz MOCCA for a taste of contemporary African art. From high up on Signal Hill – Table Mountain’s stout neighbour – toast the sunset whilst gazing at the city below and ocean beyond. You can see that same big blue ocean up close when you arrive at the scenic coast to pad around Clifton’s beaches. Or maybe you want to get the adrenaline pumping? Bundle into the side-car of a vintage motorbike for a ride along the coastal roads of the Cape Peninsula, including the breathtaking Chapman’s Peak Drive – affectionately nicknamed Chappies. Wave goodbye to Cape Town – after an awesome road trip through wine country, your next stop is Stellenbosch. This university town is nestled in one of three valleys which form the Cape Winelands. The world-beating vino can wait for now, though; bed down for the night at boutique Oude Werf hotel. Take the next two days to tour the famous vineyards of the Western Cape. Board the hop-on, hop-off wine tram as it weaves at a leisurely pace along the Franschhoek Valley. You can alight at each stop to explore the estates here, sampling some of the local tipples as you go. Back at Stellenbosch, quieten your tummy rumbles with a Foodies on Foot Tour; nibble everything from artisanal bread to sweet treats – paired with more wine, of course – as you take in the sites of this centuries-old town. After a stellar night’s sleep, hit the road of the Garden Route. The views along this stretch of coast will have you pressed against the window: sweeping vistas of verdant hills, dramatic headlands and deep blue ocean. Head through the whale-watching hotspot of Hermanus, finally arriving in the harbourside town of Knysna. Relax away the long drive with a massage at The Turbine Boutique Hotel and Spa, your home for the next couple of nights. A former goldrush town, Knysna sits beside a river flowing straight into the Indian Ocean. Paddle your way around the sparkling waters of the lagoon en route to see the Knysna Heads; these beautiful promontories once proved treacherous for fishermen. Back on dry land, experience the town’s burgeoning craft beer scene with the Beer Rocking Tour. You’ll rub shoulders with local brewers and sample a pint or two of their best. On your final day, head to Port Elizabeth for your return flight home via Johannesburg. As you gaze out of the plane window, bid South Africa a fond 'tot de volgende keer' – until next time. Details and departure dates of this trip can be tailor-made to meet your specific requirements.
