This suggested nine-night holiday starts with two days in bustling, buzzing Delhi. Based in New Delhi, spend a day exploring there, followed by another in Old Delhi. Take India’s fastest train to nearby Agra, home of the enchanting Taj Mahal. See this icon at sunset and sunrise. Next visit the enchanting Pink City of Jaipur and romantic white-hued Udaipur. You’ll stay in wonderful, charming havelis. Escapists will love getting to know the locals, cycling the streets, shopping in the markets and seeing the real, unadulterated India. After travelling through the night you’ll arrive in Delhi’s bustling capital and will be met by a member of the A&K team who will take you to your€commodation for the evening and ensure a quick and easy check-in. We suggest The Claridges hotel. This is ideally located for a free afternoon on day two to explore New Delhi – the Lodi Gardens are just€ross the road. This peaceful park is dotted with beautiful tombs. A short drive away are Humayun’s Tomb and the Qutab Minar. Or alternatively have a dip in the temperature-controlled pool and take afternoon tea in the palm tree-lined court. On day three take to Old Delhi’s streets to experience the history, colours and flavours of this larger-than-life city. Old Delhi is a medieval scene full of timeless bazaars and jumbles of alleyways. With your guide, spice up your life today at the city’s Spice Market. Meet the vendors hawking their wares – huge bags of cumin, turmeric, chilli, cardamom and more. It was these precious spices that changed the world in the Middle Ages. If you choose, you can add a ‘cooking with the family’ experience to this part of your holiday. Day four starts with a journey to the beautiful riverside city of Agra, you’ll arrive on the Gatimann Express, India’s fastest train and get there in just a little over an hour and a half. Here you’ll get to witness the spectacle that is the Taj Mahal at sunset and soak in the remarkable views of its intricate domes and arches. Its shimmering white marble is at its most spellbinding at this time of day, reflecting every change of light. On day five we recommend rising early to see the sun rise over the Taj Mahal, an experience not to be missed. Later in the morning, it’s time to go to the next point on the golden triangle, Pink City of Jaipur. You’ll take a little detour to see the magnificent sandstone fortified city of Fatehpur Sikri. After spending a comfortable evening at an 18th-century haveli, it’s time to get moving with an early morning cycling tour of the city. Navigate Jaipur’s narrow city streets, en route to the city’s fresh fruit and vegetable markets. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, the city is full of magnificent palaces, vibrant markets and chic cafÉs to explore. Must-see sights in Jaipur are Jantar Mantar, the honeycomb Hawa Mahal and the fairy-tale Amber Fort. The final three days of your trip are spent in Udaipur, starting with a scenic drive on day seven. Explore India’s most romantic city and immerse yourself in the architecture, arts and crafts. We recommend staying at a petite haveli which overlooks the lake and the town.
