5 things to do and see on the Comoros Archipelago

From hiking up volcanoes and sniffing out fragrant forest flowers, to spotting marine life in the sparking waters and cheeky lemurs in the trees, here's the very best things to do on the Comoros Islands...

1. Set out to see the denizens of the deep

Spot whales, turtles and sharks in Comoros’s bestprotected marine reserve on Mohéli Island. Join boat trips heading out from Laka Lodge to get a close-up of marine life.

2. Stand on the top of the world

Gazing out from the peak of Comoros’ highest point (2,361m) amid the simmering lava fields of Mount Karthala is about as wild as it gets.

Note: this is still an active volcano, so check reports before setting out.

3. Hike your way around Mayotte

Comoros’s top volcano has some impressive views, but over on the French island, the hike up the lush Mount Choungui is just as thrilling.

4. Engage with the local wildlife

Smile at lemur antics in the forests around Combani on Mayotte – the furry little invaders came over from Madagascar years ago and are very friendly.

5. Get a noseful
