The best of myWanderlust this week

You know you’re a travel nut when you have been scammed by Bangkok businessmen, still use maps... and still read this blog

What constitutes a travel nut? That was the thorny question posed by our editor-in-chief and living travel legend, Lyn Hughes. For Lyn, she realised she was a little obsessed with travel when she found she’d packed international power adapters for a quick trip up to Norfolk.  (I would have thought publishing a highly regarded travel magazine for 20 years might have been a bit of a giveaway too.)

myWanderlusters lined up to post examples of the ways their travel nuttiness manifested itself. Sam_j_young haggles in Tescos, apparently. But then, every little helps. Share your afflictions here.

Elsewhere on the Forum, Moosontheloose asked ‘Are you a map person?’ I would hazard a guess and say that if you are a travel nut, you are. You’ll also have had some sort of scam tried out on you, use some bizarre method to choose where you are going to travel next and know exactly why the price of an airfare to Uzbekistan goes up the minute you try to book it. You’re probably bursting with ideas on what to do during a seven-hour stopover in Kuala Lumpur and the best food to tuck into for a safe and healthy trip across Asia.

If so, your Forum needs you. Go there NOW!

Phoebs is just back from the south of Scotland where the highlight of her trip was getting lost in the woods. VickieViking, on the other hand, has returned from northern Portugal and is raving about swimming in the Rio Vez. Meanwhile, Beetrootbetty discovered a half decent glass of red for less than €1 in the Eurozone. Where? You’ll have to pop over to Just Back From to find out.

Experiences is bursting with terrific tales of adventures in the great and glorious outdoors, all entries in our latest mini-travel writing competition. Far too many to highlight, of course, but you know the drill: put on the kettle, make yourself a cuppa and settle in for some great tales of adventure. You might also want to check out whether Steve48 has earned his goody bag.

The Photography section this week takes us on a colourful journey around the globe. Zambog has posted an intriguing set of images from Peru. Boffin116 has uploaded two sets of pics from the best city in the world. And jackiefreshfield shares some amazing wildlife photos from her visit to Kruger National Park. Make sure you check out chandaala’s street photography set. They are up to his usual high standard.

Now that guy's a travel nut.
