The best from myWanderlust this week

We've been Tangoed on myWanderlust this week. And it seems you have been too

With the warmer weather here in the UK and other parts of the world, people’s minds have turned to getting tanned.

Growing up in Australia I was bombarded with government-sponsored messages to slip on a shirt, slap on a hat and slop on some sunscreen. A family holiday to Majorca a couple of years ago revealed that the rest of the world doesn’t think that way.  The resort’s resident skin care specialist’s sole task, it seemed, was to ensure that her clients could get as burnt as possible and, through a collection of various unguents, ensure that they turned brown rather than peel.

Of course, many of you may be tempted to turn to the bottle and apply fake tan but that has its pitfalls too. A photo of a former colleague circled the Towers this week, showing the dire results of a botched fake tan. (Attempted, it has to be said, as a research for an article for her new employer.) I would show it to you, but the said former colleague is very litigious.

Anyway, if you have an aversion to the colour orange I’d avoid myWanderlust this week if I was you. Especially the Photography section. We’re running a mini-photo competition this week with the theme ‘Sunrise/Sunset.’ Tom in Production was hoping for a few paparazzi shots of Julie Delpy, snapped by you guys, holidaying in Crete. Instead, we’ve been inundated with hundreds – maybe even thousands – of stunning images of the sun hovering just above or below the horizon. I don’t know how the Flower in Power at the Towers will take on the task of choosing the winner of that one. If you’ve got an hour or two to spare, pop over and check out the entries here.

Meanwhile, over at the Forum, Jamie Furlong has published a provocative post about how social media is killing photography. See if you agree with him here. While you’re there, Princess Leia is after advice on honeymooning in Iceland (leave the Wookie at home),  Bevan wants some advice on getting to the Galapagos and Bladelogan is after a travel buddy to Europe. You can help them all out here.

DeniseD is just back from Northern Ireland. She went for a party so sadly can’t remember much else. Howellsey has returned sunburned from a trip to Copenhagen where he Segwayed around the city and suggests you do too. TravelChick is back from attending a cooking course in Sorrento. And Red Pepper visited the highest railway station in Europe in the Swiss Alps and survived the to tell the tale. Where are you just back from? Tell us all about it here

Over at Experiences, Sararevell has undertaken her first post-pregnancy adventure with her baby in tow. She reveals how she survived her first long haul flight with a baby. And how early morning pancakes at Manhattan Beach are the perfect cure for jetlag.

Finally, hmoat reports from Adam’s Peak in Sri Lanka and steve48 expands on the joys of North East Norfolk, unrestrained by the 300 character limit of Just Back From. Both are well worth checking out.

See you next week. And remember, cover up!
