The best of myWanderlust this week

Best. Line. Ever.

8 mins

I read my favourite line ever on myWanderlust this week. It was over in Experiences, in a piece Dimuthug wrote about encountering Scottish football fans on the London Underground. “The London underground was packed with normal people,” she writes. “And the Scotland fans.” Such a simple line, but loaded with such meaning.

I’ve been enjoying all of Dimuthug’s pieces. Hailing from Sri Lanka, hers is a fresh perspective on the things we see every day but never notice. OK, a carriage full of ginger, kilt-wearing men is difficult not to notice, but you get my meaning.

I’ve also been enjoying sarahrevell’s stories about travelling with her new son. This week they’re in Cognac territory in France and Sarah ponders on the wisdom of putting her son through the hardships of travel when he’s not old enough to appreciate the rewards. As Pliers points out, at least he can’t say ‘Are we there yet?’, yet.

Elsewhere in Experiences, brand-new myWanderluster Mary Ryan gives a comprehensive overview of her recent adventure in Croatia. And farawayvisions has to avert her eyes as she climbs the volcano Montaña Bermeja with a pair of budgie smugglers. Good reads, both of them.

Suzycatpope is just pack from a cheap and cheerful trip to Hammamat in Tunisia and says don’t let the whole package tour thing put you off. She was able to get off the beaten path and see a side of the country a lot of people on her flight  didn’t bother to seek out. (Hence why she had the impressive ruins at Carthage all to herself.) Markymark983 has been busy. He’s back from Milan and the Lakes on an ice cream sampling tour. And the North York Moors where he sample solitude and desolation and worked off the extra pounds he picked up in Italy. Suemackness, on the other hand, has just spent a week camping in Dartmoor and reckons you should too.

There’s something for everyone over at the photography section this week. Farawayvisions does her best to hold up the Leaning Tower of Pisa. PeterJ2002 has posted a wonderful set of bird photos from the Shetlands – they look just like paintings, according to Lyn, our glorious leader. And danny2798 has put up part four of his sets of photos of the Inca Trail. Make sure you check out LoveToExplore’s images from Peru and Bolivia. Stunning.

Until next week…
