1. Visnes, Norway

Visnes is a small community on the island of Karmøy, off the west coast of Norway. The small Statue of Liberty replica down by the harbor commemorates the fact that the copper used to make the original in New York came from the copper mines here.

2. Colmar, France

The 12m replica of the Statue of Liberty here sits in the middle of a roundabout, opposite a place selling car parts in the north of the city. It was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the artist who designed the original and was born in Colmar. There is also a museum in the centre of town that displays numerous models made by Bartholdi during the process of designing the statue.

In 1900, Bartholdi offered the Luxembourg Museum the bronze model he used as part of the preparatory work for the New York statue. It was displayed in the gardens before being moved to it’s current location in front of Musée d'Orsay. A new bronze replica stands in its place in the gardens.

This small replica, also in the middle of a roundabout, sits near base flag plaza at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk. It is made from copper left over from the original.

5. Maceió, Brazil

This small-scale cast metal replica sits outside the Provincial Council building in Maceió, the capital of the State of Alagoas, in the north-east of Brazil. The replica is notable because it was cast by the same foundary as the original, Val D’Osne Foundry in France, and appears to be made of the same material and to be of similar age.

6. Arraba, Israel

There is no discernible link between this 15 foot replica in Israel and the original in New York, other than it is a good representation as any as to what Liberty looks like carrying a few extra pounds. Obviously being erected near the local restaurant has done her no favours.
