Slovenia's cycling holidays are rapidly growing in popularity. Thanks to the launch of yet another new cycling route last year, this is only set to increase even more.

With a focus on wellbeing and sustainability, the 16-day circular cycle route launched last June. En route, cyclists can stop off at the country’s best spas and wellness resorts, and providing them with the rest and restoration they need.

The Green Wellness Route is 680km in total, and split up into 16 stages, all approximately 40km. It is up to active travellers whether they want to complete the entire route, or if they'd prefer just one or two sections.

Cyclists can spend their mornings peddling through luscious Slovenian countryside, with woodlands, rolling hills, and a backdrop of snow-dusted mountains.

The trail has been designed to allow plenty of time to unwind and pamper in the afternoon, treating tired muscles to a luxury spa or health resort.

What to expect on Slovenia's Green Wellness Route for cyclists

Beginning in Slovenia’s capital of Ljubljana, the cycle path heads north towards the Kamnik Savinja Alps.

You can then leisurely pedal through Stajerska on level ground before reaching the mountains above the Pannonian Plain.

Near the end of the route, you'll come across ‘Slovenian Venice’ – aka Kozjansko Regional Park – and Otocec Castle, which appears to float in the middle of Krka River.

Those to embark on the journey are promised to expect friendly locals and great hospitality throughout their slow and sustainable journey.

And with more than 500 attractions along the Slovenia's Green Wellness Route, you'll also get to experience many of highlights.
