"It means the world to me": Simon Reeve wins Favourite Travel Personality award

The results for the Wanderlust Travel Awards 2021 are in, and this year we asked you, our Wanderlust readers, who your favourite travel personality is. After thousands of votes, we are thrilled to reveal the winner of this award goes to the brilliant TV presenter and best-selling author, Simon Reeve.

“The wonderful, gorgeous Wanderlust readers, thank you so much for this award,” Simon exclaims in his acceptance video. “I am completely blown away by this."

As travel begins to pick up again after a difficult 18 months, Simon had one message for eager explorers in his speech.

“Let’s travel greener!” he says. “Let's get even more out of our journeys and adventures, and put even more back into the communities we visit.

"When it's done right, tourism is helping to save precious landscapes and iconic wildlife, by giving people economic incentives to protect and preserve. Tourism does so much good, and we need to reinforce that going forward."

He continues: "This must be a decade of opportunity, where we create new transport systems, green our power and our food, and make travel more sustainable and more responsible."

After decades of exploring the far-flung corners of the world, travelling and filming in more than 120 countries, Simon continues to inspire us and our readers with his incredible adventures. In the past year alone, he’s graced our TV screens with Cornwall with Simon Reeve and Incredible Journeys with Simon Reeve, uncovering the world’s top travel secrets and highlighting serious issues facing the destinations he visits.

Last month, Simon released his latest book Journeys to Impossible Places, which takes readers behind-the-scenes of his career in adventurous travel and acclaimed TV, and the lessons he learned along the way.
