"During a mobile safari to North Eastern Botswana in early 2020 we decided to make an early start for our transfer between Makgadikgadi Pans NP and Nxai Pan NP. As we made a left turn along the northern border of the park we found a pack of Wild Dogs travelling along the road ahead of us. We spent some time following them before they turned off into the bush towards a waterhole and began to drink. The contrast between the dark coats of the dogs and the deep blue of the African sky in their reflection on the water was striking and I have rotated and cropped the image to emphasise this and to reflect the ethereal quality of the dogs as they cling on to survival in the wild."

"Last year, I was studying several painted dog packs for an NGO just outside of the Moremi Game Reserve. I drove for hours searching for this "far away" that was on the other side of the river. One of the adults had a GPS collar, and another had a VHF collar. Once I got to their GPS location, I had to use radio telemetry to pinpoint their location. This was an additional hour of searching in thick bush and off roading. But I finally found them - and this was the face that greeted me. Instantly, my frustrations melted away."
