From the Editor: The best from myWanderlust this week

Summer made a late appearance this week and the collective mind belatedly turned to dappled beer gardens and pitchers of Pimms... and pancakes

If you're looking for top-notch advice on where to get a wee dram or a nice pint, look no further than Hideo. Whether he is closer to home at Loch Lomond or further afield in Prague, he always seems to stumble upon some rustic establishment with welcoming barmen wearing big moustaches and leather aprons. Just goes to show how misleading profile pics can be.

If pancakes are more your thing, head over to the forum where satkinson asked for tips on what to do over a weekend in Amsterdam. Now, I don't know about you, but when I think of Amsterdam I don't necessarily think of pancakes, and in particular, ham pancakes covered in syrup. But Sergeant Pluck reckons Pannekoekenhuis, Pancake Houses are the go. Austinmini waded in with a pic of a pancake she had at the Pancake Bakery. Personally, I thought it looked more like a pizza than a pancake. No mention of Cannabis Cafes. Maybe because they're all being moved out of town. And you've got to be Dutch, Belgium or German to enjoy something stronger than coffee.

Elsewhere, the Flower in Power at the Towers (Daisy) has put out the call for myWanderlusters to come along to the Wanderlust World Guide Awards in London on October 11. It promises to be a terrific evening. There will be drinks. The best guides in the world will be recognised and feted. And you get the chance to rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in travel including Bill Bryson, Kate Humble and Mark Carwardine. And the Flower in Power herself. You'll find more details here.

Elsewhere on the forum the big questions are being asked and answered. LauraCA wants to know how to fill ten days in Japan. Austinmini is looking for recommendations for Budapest. And carolpenn is looking for gems in Sicily that aren't mentioned in the guidebook. I recommended a visit to Poggioreale, my accountant's home town, destroyed by an earthquake in the 60's. Maybe you know somewhere more appropriate.

Just back from, and Roovilla gives the much-maligned London Eye the thumbs up, Shapala discovers the delights of central Europe and I give a few tips on Nairobi, another much-maligned metropolis. Did I tell you I went clubbing with Booker Prize winning author Ben Okri? Oh, I did?

Back at experiences, Faz the Womble writes movingly of his trek to Wajir in his role as an aid worker. Q gives us a brief summary of his journey to Pantanal. And the indomitable Liz Cleere recounts a breathtaking bus trip to Asmara. Liz has quickly become a mainstay of myWanderlust and I for one look forward to reading her latest adventure each week, Keep up the good work Liz. And don't fret about the star ratings and comments. Just know we loves ya!

Over at photography and it's officially Pantanal week. Not so long ago it was photos from Yellowstone National Park dominating the galleries. Now it seems that the wildlife of Brazil's tropical wetlands are dominating the viewfinders of myWanderlusters. Q has a selection of mean-looking giant otters. Beverley Kay snapped a Coati Mundi.

Elsewhere, satkinson has a collection of candid people shots from Sri Lanka – my favourite is the one on the breakfast bus – and Rhoda1 has a set of brilliant shots from Canada. I love the one of the deers giving a car a going over like a four-legged Formula One pit team.

Anyway, I'm off to enjoy the sunshine while it lasts and I implore you to do the same. I've got a feeling we've got a long, hard winter ahead of us. This could be the last we see of the sun until April.

Unless you go off wandering, of course.
