From the Editor: The very best from myWanderlust this week

Put on a Nina Simone CD, light up a cigarette and stare pensively out the window. This week on myWanderlust it's all about regrets.

Come on, you know you've had a few. Regrets, that is.

Our Editor-in-Chief Lyn Hughes certainly has. And only one of which is hiring me. She asks Forum members if there's any place they regret not visiting before they were irrevocably changed. Lyn nominates Berlin before the wall came down and I'm with her with that one. Checkpoint Charlie has lost so much of its aura now that the only ones doing the shooting are photographers. Some of the other answers may surprise you. Check them out.

It started as a simple question on the myWanderlust Forum but such is the collective-mind power gathered there that LaurenAmelia's post titled “I'll take your next flight out of here” has evolved into a complex game, complete with its own set of intricate rules, all developed by fellow forum folk. It can't be long before Endemol come knocking with an offer to turn it into a reality TV program syndicated around the world. What is “ITYNFOOH”? You'll just have to pop over to the Forum and find out!

If you can tear yourself away from the addictive claws of “ITYNFOOH” there are some forum members who need your help. Mik wants to know whether to go to China alone or on a tour. Natalya24 is looking for funky-but-cheap accommodation in Ibiza in October. And travelmad2010 is looking for people to share their travel experiences for charity. Help them out and the Gods will smile upon you.

Just Back From continues to percolate with great tips and advice from places as far afield as Abergavenny and Norway. Sergeant Pluck found a lot to like about Jersey but suggests getting a small car. Lots of cars, lots of tight country lanes – the smaller the better he reckons. He also highly recommends a visit to La Houge Bie – a neolithic passage grave, medieval chapel and a German command bunker all rolled into one. Something for fans of any era.

Our very own Daisy Cropper just got back from trekking in Norway. She is still bent over and occasionally needs help up the stairs. This isn't surprising since she just conquered Mt Skåla – the Norwegian hike with the biggest difference in height from the start at sea level to the mountain top. Her top tip? Avoid the set menu and go for the buffet!

Elsewhere, David Ross just returned from Isle of Coll and Isle of Tiree in Scotland and warns: Beware the midge! Alan Taylor was surprised by the high quality of the food in Lichfield. And on a similar foodie note, Julie 69 recommends the Partisan-themed Kryivka in Kiev. A man wielding an AK-47 demands a password before letting you in. In case you're wondering, it's “Pass the salt.” (It's not actually. It's “Slava Ukraina”. But I dare you to say “Pass the salt” and see what happens.)

We put a call out last week for Experiences using the theme 'Memorable Encounters' and received a terrific response. So much so that we're still reading through them to decide a winner. Pop over and have a look to appreciate the difficult task we have ahead of us.

There's Bebsy being mugged by a legless man at the football in Buenos Aires. Compogirl encounters a brassy OAP on the ferry to Staten Island (and she isn't talking about Lady Liberty). stvgreen got all David Hasselhoff in Kanchanaburi and rescued a drowning lady at Erawan Falls. Steve48 tells us about the time he got 'arrested' in Nairobi, Roger Lancaster shares the lessons he learned in an encounter with Delhi traffic and Liz Cleere encounters 'shark-eyed' gunmen in Eritrea. I like that phrase, 'shark-eyed.' I think I shall appropriate it and use it myself sometime.

I've just scratched the surface. Do go over and read every single entry. You won't regret it.

Over at the Photography section, Steve48 has put up some more photos of Baltic buildings, Connor JT has some snaps from a family trip to Malaysia and Beccs shares some pics from Venice, just to show us why she loves the place so much. Chandaala has some moody images from the Peak Distict in Derbyshire. And pebbles111 has posted a random pic of Paul Merton. Your feelings about that pic, I suspect, will be determined by your feelings about Paul Merton.

And on that note, I shall leave you. I'm off to be rained upon at the Shambala Festival in Northamptonshire.

Looking out the window at the miserable weather I'm regretting it already.
