From the Editor: The best from myWanderlust this week

Hey everybody! JanieB is back!

4 mins

It's always nice to see an old myWanderluster wander back onto the site, dust themselves down and start regaling us with tales of derring-do from some far corner of the globe. This week it was JanieB, fresh off the plane from Pakistan's north-west frontier.

JanieB had popped up to the Kalash Valley to check out the spring festival of Joshi. As you can imagine, travelling and permits in the region aren't easy but the riot of colourful dancing, drumming and whooping are well worth it. And that's just after getting through the first military roadblock. JanieB has also posted some pics from the festival. Make sure you check them out too.

Liz Cleere has had a bit of a wander around Kerala and reports that Rough Guides got it right. The YMCA's loft ensuite bedroom in Trivandrum really does only cost £8.50 a night. She also recommends booking your tour of the city ahead of time – they don't really deal well with people just turning up out of the blue. And avoid buying your incense sticks from the SMSM Institute. They shortchange.

Elsewhere on just back from, Jayprime sings the praises of Georgetown Guyana, wayan has the scoop on swimming with whale sharks in Western Australia and EHalford now knows how to shoot people with hot coals after visiting Chirk Castle. You have been warned!

On the forum this week Trappers is planning a trip to Patagonia later in the year and needs your help. AngelaR has issued a call to arms to get Wanderlust magazines into airport lounges. And Liz Cleere wants tips on things to do for free. Speaking of which, make sure you check out Commander-in-chief Lyn Hughes' exciting announcement about a very exclusive Petra event at the Royal Geographical Society in London. If you've ever wanted to fondle Lawrence of Arabia's scarf, then this is the event for you.

The more I read about keithruffles adventure into Transnistria, the more I'm tempted to grab my pack and head there now. Right now. He has supplemented his terrific piece in the latest issue of Wanderlust with an experience detailing his 'escape' from the country.

Leeanne is in a nostalgic mood, reminiscing about a trip to Australia to follow the British Lions on which she learned to love rugby but not the dive where she stayed in Melbourne.

Elsewhere on experiences, Nigerian Kiwi continues his series on wandering through Malaysia. Vicky_jade gives us the inside scoop on getting to Gili Meno in Indonesia and TaraGoldsmith discovers the charm of Kovačica and its Naive art.

Over at our photo galleries, arantha has posted some photos of Gdansk, one of my favourite places in Poland. JanieB, as I mentioned, has posted a couple of galleries from her Pakistani adventures. And Bev Bishop has stuck up some photos from Mallorca in which the sea is a startling shade of blue. She assures me it really was that colour. Angela R, meanwhile, has posted a study in more muted brownish tones from her visit to the Arches National Park in Utah.

Finally, Peterj2002 has thrown down a challenge. He has posted a photo of the Jubilee Beacon being lit in Castle Hill in Mere that shows six other beacons and wants to know if you can beat it.

Well, can you?
