From the Editor: The best from myWanderlust this week

Peter Moore returns from Kosovo to find myWanderlust awash with peace, love and understanding. What happened?

5 mins

After the charged atmosphere of  last week, it seems everyone is reaching out, trying to find out a little more about each other on myWanderlust.

Liz Cleere admits that she is a planner. And most of you admitted that you were too. MattyBoy876 'fessed up that he likes to get to an airport early, and again, most of you put up your hands and said you did too. Fintown Trekker wanted to know what people wear on their big trips. A little strange, it has to be admitted. But at least he's trying.

While some have come to the forum looking for understanding, others are looking for advice. Emmaroe1983 is heading to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam for 3-4 weeks and wants some tips. Mik is off to Krakow for the New Year and is looking for things to do. And Pluck is turning 40 and wants to know where he should spend the big day.

True to form, myWanderlust-ers have come up with some pretty hardcore suggestions (there can't be too many other sites where members suggest spending your 40th in the Falkland Islands). Watch this space to see what the good Sergeant decides.

Commander-in-Chief Lyn Hughes wanted to know where you're all going in November and the answer, it seems, is that you're already out. As always, just back from is loaded with advice and tips from all corners of the globe.

Hmoat 01 has been in Basque country celebrating all things peppers. Alisonmay has been in Switzerland hanging with the bears in Berne and sings the praises of the Swiss railway system.

Englishman went to Tunisia and says avoid the TTS Past & Present tour, don't touch anything you don't want to buy. And change small amounts of money at a time. El Jem amphitheatre is worth the effort though. And he can't recommend riding a camel at sunset in the desert highly enough.

Nomadichatter travelled on the Trans Sib and was blown away by the autumnal colours of Siberia. Just don't lose your hand towel. The Provodnista won't be amused.

On a personal note, I just got back from Kosovo. I've got a few little tips on eating and sleeping cheaply in one of the world's newest countries. But if I were you I'd head straight to the comments and read Sergeant Pluck's tale of staying with a local family in Prague. He gets accused of stealing fish from their fish tank. Gold, I tells ya.

Over at experiences, Hmoat 01 describes a nail-biting trip to Ngorogoro. Such is the quality of the experiences that get posted on myWanderlust, this one took out a Daily Telegraph travel writing competition.

Leeanne takes us island-hopping through the Cyclades. PeterJ2002 takes us on a tour of St Petersburg. And Rhoda1 heads to Canada and Alaska in search of bears.

JayR shares memories from a trip to Burma in 1988. Keep an eye out for the next issue of Wanderlust for Lyn's account of her recent trip to Burma. It'll be interesting to compare and contrast.

Liz Cleere takes us to Sadla Island in Eritrea this week. And in her indomitable fashion, puts this forgotten destination on the top of your must-visit wish list.

Still not convinced? Check out Demonboy's photos from Sadla. A red dinghy, pulled up on a deserted beach, the sun setting over azure waters. It could almost have been art-directed.

Elsehwere in photography, Calamine2808 gets us up close and personal with Great White Sharks from her cage dive in South Africa and a wistful-looking cheetah in Namibia. Fintown Trekker paps Papandreou when the Greek prime minister George visited Bulgaria. No word if Fintown threw him a couple of Euros, to help the Greeks out of their scrape.

VKHaitan hits the streets of Bangalore and captures a more sophisticated and cosmopolitan side of the city. Who knew a cup of coffee could look so striking?

Speaking of coffee, I'm off to Starbucks for an eggnog latte. Sad, I know. But as an immigrant, it's what makes me realise that it's beginning to feel a bit like Christmas.
