From the Editor: The best from myWanderlust this week

Look at the stars. Look how they shine for you. And all the photos too. They were all yellow.

Every now and then we have a little photo competition on myWanderlust. We nominate a theme – usually a colour, it has to be said – and you guys post your best pics that match the theme. This week we chose yellow, celebrating the fact that Coldplay admitted that it was a mistake releasing their last album. OK, they admitted it was a mistake releasing it with an unpronounceable name like Mylo Xyloto, not releasing it altogether. But it's a start.

There's no niggling question about the quality of the images posted by myWanderlusters though. From Rhoda1's close up of a Burmese woman, her face plastered with thanaka paste, to Nyoka's shot of an orange-breasted sunbird on yellow pincushion Protea in Kirstenbossch Botanical Gardens in South Africa, they're all worth checking out. There are a lot of bananas, as you'd expect. Quite a few women in bright yellow saris, too. But have a poke around and you'll find some unexpected yellow things. Like Lovelight's shot of an underground station in Bonn.

Before you leave the myWanderlust photo section, make sure you seek out some of the non-themed galleries, flotsam in the sea of yellow. Treacleminer takes us back to Sri Lanka 1977, Sangreya asks us to Follow the Gull on the Isle of Man and Bogmusic captures the heart of The Gambia. Check them all out here.

Sangreya pops up over on experiences too. She is fast becoming our Isle of Man evangelist, assuming a similar role to the equally fervent LaurenAmelia had with Cornwall. Her evocative piece titled 'Where the kippers are fresh and it smells like the sea' will have you searching for cheap flights to Ronaldsway. Liz Cleere takes us on a ride on the Darjeeling Toy Train and declares it 'most outstanding'. Leeanne reminisces about a big trip to Namibia that she organised on the hop. And treacleminer takes us off-roading in Latin America.

A special mention too for JayR's moving piece, She. Written to commemorate International Women's Day it celebrates the quiet, dignified struggle of Elizabeth as she raises her granddaughters in Zambia. A change of pace from JayR's raucous piece about Carnival in Trinidad, it's a testament to JayR's writing skills that she pulls it off.

Toonsarah is just back from Iceland and was impressed by the extraordinary light and surprisingly accommodating weather. Her shutter finger is still recovering. Liz Cleere explored the ancient gated communities of Ahmedabad and reveals the best place to see the chabutros, bird feeders, throw chunks of meat to appreciative kites. And Jwow is back from visiting tribal villages in India and tells how you can too.

Elsewhere, mattyboy876 joins the long list of myWanderlusters back from Norway after seeking out the northern lights. He slept through one display, but thankfully stayed up long enough on his last night to catch the illuminations. Take the opportunity to go dog sledding, he says. Pricey, but worth it.

As usual, the big questions continue to be asked on the forum. Liz Cleere wants to know whether you think zoos are a good thing or a bad thing. Sangreya is wondering whether India's proposed replica of Angkor Wat is flattery or theft. And Angela R's husband reckons the TV series The World's Most Dangerous Roads is irresponsible and encourages people to drive on them. I would suggest that most people tootling along these roads don't have much choice in the matter, but you can join in the debate here.

See you next week.
