Win! A trip for two to Dominica in the Caribbean worth £2,600

Closing date: 22 May 2019

There is no island in the Caribbean like Dominica. With its steep forest-covered mountain peaks rising like green giants from the ocean, this hidden paradise (pronounced Domineeka) is such a jaw-dropping sight that it will take your breath away.

It is hardly surprising that its dramatic beauty features in such literary classics such as Wide Sargasso Sea, or in blockbuster films such as Pirates of the Caribbean. Dominica is a world apart from the similarly-named Dominican Republic, with an endless list of outdoor activities for adventurers. The island is a paradise for travellers seeking a unique escape off the beaten track, exploring the Caribbean beyond its renowned beaches....

Discover Dominica are offering the chance to win a three-night trip for two to this slice of Caribbean paradise, including accommodation at the boutique hotel, Wanderlust Caribbean, and return flights.

On the island, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in this true tropical wilderness. It’s known for its spectacular walking, with the island’s signature hike a full day trek through the active volcanic caldera of the Valley of Desolation, finishing at the Boiling Lake – a bubbling greyish-blue water often enveloped in a cloud of vapour.

A water wonderland

Dominica is also a hotspot for diving and snorkelling, where colourful and healthy coral reefs teem with marine creatures of all kinds, including frogfish, seahorses, passing hawksbill turtles and eagle rays.

Sperm whales are also present year-round and, if you are lucky, can even be spotted from the shore. The best way to see them, however, is to take a whale watching trip with one of the operators in the south. Sightings of sperm whales are common, and the trip will often encounter large pods of dolphins. Pilot, humpback and killer whales are also frequently sighted here.
