Journey over frozen lakes and rivers and through the beautiful Saguenay forests and experience the Mahikan, a unique breed of dog which legend believes ‘fears nothing’.
Dates: December to March
Day 1- Fly from London to Montreal with Air Canada departing at 1300 arriving at 1530.Montreal - High Laurentians. Arrival and transfer from the airport to the High Laurentians region (Length: about 2h30). You will spend the night in a log-made wood cabin with shared bathroom. (D)Accommodation : Cabin
Day 2- High LaurentiansYou meet your guide and he present you the dogs and distribute the harnesses. Short travel to the entrance of Papineau Labelle fauna reserve. At the end of the morning, departure from the Pie IX welcome site towards the first refuge. We take and old lumberjack road to get to the Leclerc refuge. This day of initiation of 20km will give you confidence and you will feel more comfortable with your sled for the next days (B, L, D) Accommodation : Cabin
Day 3- High LaurentiansWe will go north to go around Lake Montjoie, which has a 40km circumference. After lunch (BBQ), we will go over some small streams towards Lake Pronovost to get to the Fascinant refuge. (B, L, D) Accommodation : Cabin
Day 4- High LaurentiansWe will take an old railroad to get to Lake Ernest, going around Lake Armstrong. Snack in the woods, and we will pass in front a a real trapper log cabin of more than 100 years old! Downhill to cross over Petit Lac du Sourd and get to our nice refuge. Time to install the dogs and a well deserved rest, in front of the fireplace. (B, L, D) -Accommodation : Winter Cabin
Day 5- High LaurentiansDeparture early this morning, on the bay of this huge lake, to follow the trail of the moose. Wild trail to Lake Binet where we will have lunch... We will cross over another part of Lake du Sourd, north side, until the Bauchet refuge, magnificent log cabin. (B, L, D) -Accommodation : Winter Cabin
Day 6- High LaurentiansThrough the spruces, the hilly trail will bring us to the dam. We will lunch on a small island on Lake Joinvile, in the middle of nowhere, then we will go around Mount Body to get back to our starting point. in a log-made wood cabin with shared bathroom. (B, L, D) Accommodation : Cabin
Day 7- High Laurentians - MontrealEarly departure in the morning to Montreal. Enjoy a little time for shopping or sightseeing. Night at Hotel Les Suites Labelle (B)Accommodation : Hotel
Day 8- MontrealFree time to discover the city before the transfer to the airport. (B)
Price Includes: Return transfers from the airport as well as between activity sites, meet and greet at Montreal airport and Saguenay train station, services of a certified musher-guide, 1 dog sled per person for 5 days, 'Extreme Cold' clothing; snow-suit, boots and gloves, expedition grade sleeping bag, spa and sauna access during nights at the log-made chalets, 7 nights accommodation, all meals and taxes.
