The terai is one of the last remaining wildernesses in the subcontinent and home to various iconic species including greater one-horned rhino, gharial, Asian elephant and even Bengal tiger.
Covering a vast expanse in the southern foothills of the Himalayas, the Terai ecosystem is a rich mix of tall grasslands, sal forest and pristine wetlands. The Terai is undisturbed and a long way from the well trodden tourist trail. Here, the wildlife has literally established the path rather than hordes of tourists.
On this exclusive small group itinerary we will experience the unspoilt wilderness and charismatic wildlife that abounds in the Terai all whilst staying in the region's finest safari lodges. Accompanied by an expert naturalist guide throughout, we will enjoy private safaris and game viewing excursions in the key wildlife locations of the Terai and some of the iconic species we could observe include greater one-horned rhino, Asian elephant, sarus crane, Bengal florican, gharial, great pied hornbill and Indian narrow-headed soft-shell turtle. There is even a chance that we could also encounter Bengal tiger and sloth bear.
If you are interested in a tailor-made itinerary, we also have our Untamed Terai trip idea.
