Based at Aigas Field Centre, this week-long photographic workshop will provide ample opportunity to capture images of British wildlife whilst also receiving tuition from some of the UK’s finest photographers.
Nestled in the heart of the Scottish Highlands and adjacent to the meandering River Beauly, the Aigas Field Centre is a place renowned for celebrating and conserving Scotland's abundant wildlife, and is also the location for our most extensive UK-based photographic workshop yet.
The Aigas Estate boasts a variety of habitats – ancient pine forests, secluded woodlands, tranquil lochs - and is home to numerous iconic species and within easy reach are other locations and landscapes like Glen Affric and the Beauly Firth and Moray Firth, that offer further wildlife diversity. Above crags on open hillside golden eagles soar and peregrine falcons stoop. In quieter corners, numerous hides offer opportunities to photograph many resident species including red squirrels, pine martens, beavers, badgers, osprey and crested tits. Further afield at nearby coastal locations there may be bottlenose dolphins and plenty of shore birds.
Whether a beginner or a more proficient photographer you will receive expert guidance from our three specialist photographers. With group size limited to 12, our aim is to maximise your tuition time with Nick Garbutt and macro specialist Alex Hyde.
To augment the expertise of our photographers, you will also be accompanied by estate naturalists who will provide expert knowledge on the local wildlife and fascinating history of Aigas. Education and conservation are pivotal features of the Aigas philosophy, with their team centrally involved in Eurasian beaver reintroductions (including on the estate) and captive-breeding of critically endangered Scottish wildcats, which will hopefully begin being reintroduced back to the wild in 2022. There will be ample opportunity to learn about the many challenges these projects face in order to achieve success.
