Polar Bears Of Churchill

From: £4675.00

Holiday overview

On the picturesque coastline of Hudson Bay in northern Manitoba, the once-prosperous trading post of Churchill is regarded as one of the best places on earth to see polar bears. On this tour, you'll venture out on special Tundra Buggies, 4x4 jeeps adapted for life in the Arctic and converted to maximise your bear-viewing experience. In the company of expert local guides, you'll follow the annual polar bear migration, returning each night to cosy, log-cabin accommodation complete with roaring fires, gourmet food and, with luck, views of the Northern Lights. There's even the chance to try dog sledding and, weather permitting, enjoy a helicopter flight.

Holiday itinerary

Day 1: UK/Winnipeg

Begin your holiday in relaxing style with included airport lounge access before your daytime flight to Canada. Upon arrival in Manitoba’s capital city, transfer to your airport hotel where you'll meet your fellow explorers and a welcome from your guide.

Stay: Winnipeg airport hotel

Day 2: Churchill

Rise early to board your flight north to Churchill and transfer to your downtown hotel. Then, join a guided tour of this remote town in the heart of Manitoba’s polar bear country, including Polar Bears International House, providing education about polar bears, climate change and science, and Parks Canada Visitor Centre set in Wapusk National Park with a range of interactive exhibits.

Stay: Tundra Inn, Churchill (or similar)

Days 3-4: Tundra Buggy Adventure & Dog Sledding

Two of the next three days are given over entirely to exploring the region in purposely built Tundra Buggies, designed to cover huge areas of this starkly beautiful region while following the annual polar bear migration. Keep your eyes peeled as you might also spot Arctic fox, caribou and hares amid the endless white. Weather permitting, you might also catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

One day is given to a dog-sledding experience, with a guided interpretive program, which also includes a visit to the Itsanitaq Museum, complete with Inuit carvings and artefacts.

Day 5: Return to Winnipeg

After a leisurely breakfast, enjoy a full-day Tundra Buggy adventure in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area before a transfer to the airport for your evening flight south to Winnipeg and a transfer back to your city-centre hotel.

Days 6-7: Depart for UK

Depart Winnipeg for your onward flight, arriving in the UK the next day.
