Stay in two of the country’s finest luxury hotels as you’re exposed to the oceanfront charms of an Atlantic fishing village and the bustling history of its Marrakech. The Sultans of Morocco, since the 12th century, have populated what is known as the 'Red City' with exquisite architecture as well as ancient traditions and customs that are preserved to this day. You’ll go on an in-depth historical tour of this storied city before tasting your way through its mouth-watering cuisine on a food tour. Finally, move to Oualidia’s coastal beaches. Here you’ll spend three relaxing days by the sea in a Moorish fort drenched in sunset reds and supplied by local fishermen with excellent seafood. Oualidia's microclimate makes it a true year-round destination, with an average of 320 sunshine per year.
Day 1: UK/Marrakech
On your first day, fly into Marrakech before transferring to your first La Sultana hotel. Consisting of five riads (grand Moroccan houses), its painted ceilings house antique furniture, crackling fireplaces and collections of artwork. Spend your evening at leisure, perhaps on the hotel’s rooftop terrace where traditional flavours are served to a backdrop of the Red City’s bustling Medina.
Day 2: Marrakech
On the morning of your second day, an expert guide will take you on a comprehensive tour of the city’s historic sights. You’ll start at Koutobia mosque and minaret before travelling through the Bab Agnaou gate to the 16th century necropolis, the final resting place for 60 members of the Saadi Dynasty. Next on your tour is the remains of the El Badi Palace where you’ll also admire the 12th century pulpit of the city’s main mosque. Then, after studying the intricate mosaics of the Bahia Palace, you’ll explore the Jewish Quarter’s 15th century synagogue. Your afternoon is free to stroll around the Medina or relax and enjoy the hotel’s superb facilities, including its award-winning spa.
Day 3: Marrakech
Your second day is free to enjoy the hotels's facilities or stroll the city, perhaps stopping at some of the boutiques and market stalls that you spotted on the previous day’s tour. As the sun sets in the early evening the Jamma El Fna comes alive with street theatre, storytellers and musicians, whilst open air restaurants fire up their grills, creating a backdrop of atmospheric, billowing smoke. This celebrated square is described by Unesco as offering a 'unique concentration of popular Moroccan cultural traditions performed through musical, religious and artistic expressions' and is a highlight of any trip to Marrakech.
Day 4: Marrakech/Oualidia
In the morning, a private transfer will bring you three hours northeast to the Atlantic Coast and picturesque Oualidia, famed for its seafood. Oysters can be bought freshly shucked from fishermen making land on the hotel’s private beach. Additionally, your Moorish fort accommodation has only twelve rooms with traditional art lining stone walls and marble floors leading out onto private terraces, complete with seawater Jacuzzis.
Days 5-6: Oualidia
You’ll have two days to unwind and enjoy the hotel's unique, relaxing ambiance. Bring a book to the pool cabanas as you watch flamingos fly past or perhaps take a boat ride across the lagoon and enjoy a private picnic on a secluded Atlantic beach. You’ll have excellent access to seafood with bountiful oyster farms nearby. Meals can be served on the hotel’s pier, or simply enjoy sunset with a few oysters with a glass of chilled wine before dining on the beach or terrace. Back at the hotel there’s a billiards room, library and gym along with an award-winning spa centred around a swimming pool. Like its sister property in Marrakech, La Sultana Oualidia also offers cooking classes (at extra cost), where you can create your very own taste of Morocco.
Day 7: Oualidia/UK
After breakfast, drive back to Marrakech airport to board your flight home.
