Journey with us to Thailand on our introductory tour of its amazing cultural highlights including the iconic temples and floating markets of the vibrant, capital city, Bangkok, and the ancient capital of Sukhothai, which is now a World Heritage Site.
Travel north to Chiang Mai’s fascinating temples, elephant nature park and night markets. Continue to Chiang Rai to explore the Golden Triangle area on the border of Laos and Burma, to visit hill tribes, take jungle walks and cruise on the Mekong River. You have the option of extending your stay in Thailand at one of the inviting sandy beaches before travelling back home.
Day 1 Bangkok
Arrive in Bangkok and transfer to the Ramada Plaza Menam Riverside Hotel for three nights. The rest of the day is at leisure, with a welcome dinner and cultural dance performance at a local restaurant in the evening.
Day 2 Bangkok
A full day of sightseeing in this bustling city – start with a visit to the riverside Grand Palace to see the impressive Dusit Hall and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and, later, see the colossal Reclining Buddha statue at Wat Pho. In the afternoon, ride along the River of Kings and its quiet canals. Also visit Wat Arun – the temple of Dawn.
Day 3 Bangkok
Another full day of sightseeing. Visit the floating market and continue west to visit the Bridge on the River Kwai, Kanchanaburi , war museum and ‘death railway’.
Day 4 Bangkok, Sukhothai
After a morning at leisure, take a short flight to the ancient walled city of Sukhothai. Check in at the Legendha Sukhothai Hotel for two nights.
Day 5 Sukhothai
A full day’s sightseeing of World Heritage Sukhothai Historical Park and neighbouring Si Satchanalai today.
Day 6 Sukhothai, Chiang Mai
Drive to Chiang Mai (5 hours) and, en route, visit the old temples in Lampang as well as the Hariphunchai Temple. Stay at the Empress Chiang Mai hotel for three nights.
Day 7 Chiang Mai
Take an excursion to the mountain temple of Doi Suthep, one of northern Thailand’s most sacred temples. Next, visit a Hmong hill tribe on Doi Pui. The afternoon’s sightseeing features the city temples of Wat Suan Dok, Wat Chiang Man and Wat Phra Singh.
Day 8 Chiang Mai
Enjoy a Cookery class in the morning.
Optional: An excursion to Elephant Nature Park, an elephant rescue and rehabilitation centre.
Day 9 Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai
Drive to Chiang Rai (5-6 hours) in the morning. Stay at the River House Resort for two nights. The afternoon at leisure.
Day 10 Chiang Rai
An excursion to the border town of Mae Sai today. In the afternoon, visit Chiang Saen, also known as the Golden Triangle, which is the meeting point of Thailand, Burma and Laos, at the confluence of the Mekong and Ruak Rivers.
Day 11 Chiang Rai
Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
