A wonderful all-inclusive wildlife watching holiday in the Scottish Highland where you will have the best possible chance of seeing many of Scotland’s iconic species. Single centre houseparty style holiday based at our converted “steading” in the Cairngorms. Minibus transport. Walking generally easy, although more strenuous in the mountains.

We stay in our converted steading designed for our holidays and you’ll enjoy all the facilities of a small country hotel, simple elegant ensuite rooms, beautiful furnishings and a warm welcome that will linger with you long after you’ve returned home. It’s completely informal, but with all that you might need and the personal attention of all of us as hosts and our chefs often get more praise than the wildlife! There’s every chance to really unwind and it’s all yours for the week.

From our base in Glen Feshie there is plenty to see close to home and we’ll start perhaps with a visit to a local glen, or to the beautiful Caledonian Pine forest. Here Crested Tit and Scottish Crossbill are amongst the breeding birds, Red Squirrels scamper through the branches and nearby lochans hold Slavonian Grebe. Golden Eagle are displaying at this time of year and Osprey are back at their nest sites, including our very own pair so close to the Steading!

We’ll make an early start one morning to visit the RSPB hide where imposing Capercaillie tail fan in a threatening display as the males perform their incredible lek. This way we get the very best chance of seeing males display whilst not disturbing this vulnerable bird at this crucial time of year. We’ll also see Black Grouse as they ’bubble and coo’ at a dawn lek very close to home, guaranteed to create a great appetite for a full cooked breakfast back at the Steading.

We have our own places to find camouflaged Mountain Hare, as Red Deer watch us from the skyline. We’ll have a wonderful day amidst the dramatic mountain peaks and shores of the west coast: White-tailed Eagles soaring over Scottish Islands; Great Northern and Black-throated Divers in breeding plumage; wild Rock Doves, Ravens, Twite and Black Guillemot, plus a good chance of finding Otters as they search for fish along the shoreline.

All this plus a visit to the Black Isle with its resident group of Bottlenose Dolphins, plus Long-tailed Duck, Scaup, Slavonian Grebes and Scoters; a visit to our own hide for Pine Martens and Badgers; a night drive spotlighting for mammals and owls; and a walk for Ptarmigan in the Cairngorm mountains ... it’ll be a busy week!
