Lying inside the Arctic Circle, Sisimiut is Greenland's second largest town and has been inhabited by various cultures for around 4,500 years, from the people of the Saqqaq culture who arrived from the Arctic regions of Canada, through to the descendants of the Thule culture who make up the majority of today's population.
The area around Sisimiut is a paradise for nature lovers. In summer you can enjoy flower-filled valleys whilst hiking a wide-variety of trails under the midnight sun, and in winter ski touring during the day brings you up close to nature while at night you may be lucky enough to see the spectacular northern lights.
To really get away from it all, spend time in the remote Erfalik Wilderness Lodge where you can hike in search of caribou, sea eagles, foxes and hares; go fishing for Arctic char; kayak; hone your photography skills or simply relax amidst the silence that only a true wilderness can provide. In the evenings settle in front of the fire and relax with your fellow adventurers.
