The Adlerweg crosses the peaks and ridges of the Tirol from St Johann in the east to St Anton am Arlberg in the west. It is a wild high-level route. We have chosen a two week central section through the Rofan and Karwendel mountains which covers some of the very best walking, starting in Kufstein on the border with Germany, and ending in Innsbruck, the capital of the Austrian Alps. We have tweaked the route to maximise its Alpine charm, and stay for two nights each in the Erfurter and Falken huts and in the Hallerangerhaus. Whilst it is a linear walk, our first and last nights will be in Kufstein all other nights are in mountain huts. Please be aware that this is a high level Alpine tour. The terrain varies from easy forest tracks to steep rocky paths, crossing loose scree slopes, negotiating exposed ridges sometimes aided with steel cables and occasional scrambling. In inclement weather the path might be very slippery and great care is needed particularly when crossing snow fields which in some places may persist the whole year round.
