Trip Operator: Ramblers Walking Holidays
We fly to Colombo for the chance to stroll through its colonial streets. Next, we head inland, pausing at the film set for Bridge on the River Kwai. We explore rainforest, rubber plantations and former gem mines. The highlands is where the best walks are found: Liptons Seat, Little Adams Peak and the Horton Plains. Of course this is tea country so we stop for a brew and see how its all processed. In Kandy we are immersed in culture, the Temple of the Tooth is one of Buddhisms most important shrines. From Habarana, highlights include Sigiriya, the spectacular rock fortress. We walk through a typical rural Sri Lanka landscape stopping at a farm, plus spend a day exploring Wilpattu National Park, looking for leopard, elephant and Sloth bears. Our final night is spent by the beach relaxing.
