Hadrian's Wall National Trail

From: £839.00

Guided Walking Holidays - Hadrians Wall National Trail Roam the northernmost border of the Roman Empire and imagine what it must have been like for the warm-blooded soldiers, so far from home in this remote and compelling landscape. This continuous walk, with two bases, follows the Hadrians Wall National Trail. With its relatively easy terrain and lack of steep ascents, it should appeal to just about every reasonably fit walker. Starting just west of Heddon on the Wall, and finishing at Bowness on the Solway Firth, well cover about 66 miles of the trail in six days, following in the footsteps of the Roman soldiers who once patrolled this northernmost outpost of the Roman Empire. Emperor Hadrian built the wall in the 2nd century to mark the northern border of the Roman Empire. The middle sections of the wall, in particular, pass through some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain, with little changed since the Romans left. We visit many well-preserved sites on our way, such as Chesters Roman Fort, Birdoswald and Carlisle Castle. Most days include an hours sightseeing. If youre members of National Trust or English Heritage dont forget your membership cards.
