At first light the cold air chills the bones in the Himalaya but the anticipation of one of the most beautiful sights in the world diverts the mind. The mountains become clearer and then suddenly the sun bursts through revealing snow clad peaks burning pink in the dawn light. A collective drawing of breath can be felt from all those lucky souls who share this unique experience During the day our every step is€companied by views of mountains towering another mile above our heads. The names may not be familiar, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, but the views are everything you hoped for and more. And then the first view of Everest, something to tell the grandchildren about. Fortunately the view can be enjoyed from the trail or from a caf with beer in hand. It is great to have a choice. If you can take your eyes away from the snowy peaks there is so much to be enjoyed. We walk through the heart of ethnic Sherpa country. The cadences of life are different from anything we know. Fields are ploughed with oxen, villagers rise and rest with the sun as they have always done. Buddhist temples rest on summits, prayer wheels and flags are seen beside the paths. Spirituality is important to the people who live their lives in these starkly beautiful but harsh surroundings. Enjoy the contrast between the mountains and the bustling city of Kathmandu. Vibrant, busy and a complete contrast to the mountains, it is an essential part of experiencing the best of Nepal.
