Travel the old Silk Road through Uzbekistan and hang out with Nomads in Kyrgyzstan. Take the route less travelled in to Tibet and Mount Kailash, before staring in wonder at Mount Everest. Meet fellow travellers in the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu and why not extend your time here to trek in the Himalayas. PLEASE NOTE: This is an Exploratory trip with several new areas for Oasis. Days 10 to 14 Turkmenistan
Turkmenbashi – interesting port town.
Transfer to jeeps – desert crossing – Balkan mountains and Yangikala Canyon.
Darwaza Gas Crater – the ‘Door to Hell’, a result of Soviet-era gas exploration.
Kunye Urgench - see the 60mtr high minaret
Days 15 to 25 Uzbekistan
Aral Sea – see ships marooned in the desert.
Khiva - explore the ancient medressas, mausoleums and museums.
Bukhara - an important stop on the Silk Rd of old & home to over 350 mosques & 100 Islamic colleges.
Kyzylkum Desert - beauty & harshness in one.
Samarkand - as old as Babylon, view the beauty of the Registan, medressas & mosques.
Termez – border town with Afghanistan.
Days 26 to 34 Tajikistan
Dushanbe – the capital.
Pamir Highway – stunning views from the top of the world.
Khorog and the Koi Tezek Pass (4272 mtrs).
Murgab – Ak Baital Pass (4655 mtrs).
Kara Kul Lake – highest lake in Central Asia.
Days 35 to 38 Kyrgyzstan
Osh, the 2nd largest city in Kyrgyzstan & home of the Great Silk Road Bazaar.
High passes and the turquoise waters of Toktogul Reservoir.
Days 39 to 40 Bishkek - the Kyrgyzstan capital. Soviet built city with tree lined boulevards and parks. A chance to let our hair down, relax and maybe remind our taste buds about western food!
Days 41 to 52 Kyrgyzstan
Ala-Archa Nature Reserve - an option to go trekking to the edge of glaciers, in spectacular scenery
Lake Issyk-Kul - a massive mountain lake with magnificent scenery & loads of€tivities to choose from
Karakol / Jeti Orguz Region - hiking into the surrounding Terskay Ala-Too Mountains
Lake Song Kol - Traditional yurt stay, horseback riding and trekking the surrounding area
Tash Rabat - visit this ancient caravanserai
Torugat Pass - travel through the Tien Shan Mountains & cross the border into China
Days 53 to 61 China and Tibet
Kashgar - a major trading point on the old Silk Road.
Follow the border of Pakistan and India – rough roads and wild camping!
Mt Kailash – Little visited Sacred Site.
Days 62 to 68 Manasarovar Lake
Mt Everest Base Camp – staying in tea houses with spectacular views!
Days 69 to 72 Nepal
South to Zhangmu and the Nepal border
Enter Nepal – twists and turns down the valley to arrive in Kathmandu!
