Culinary excellence and variety are perhaps not the first things that leap to mind when you think of a trip to Jordan. However, happily, there are a handful of different and unique ways to get to grips with local cooking (and wine production!) and make this a feature of your time in Jordan – as well of course as taking in the stunning and spectacular sights the country is so famous for.
Day 1 | Fly to Amman and transfer to your hotel for a three night stay.
Day 2 | Begin the day with a tour of the capital before heading off to visit the Classical city of Jerash. In the evening it’s a traditional Jordanian cookery lesson.
Day 3 | Head north to look around the vineyards of the St George Winery, see their production process and sample their wares. On the way back to Amman, visit the ancient city of Umm Quais.
Day 4 | Head down the King’s Highway, stopping at Madaba’s mosaics and the impressive Crusader castle of Kerak. Arrive at your Petra hotel for a three night stay.
Day 5 | A tour of the ancient city of Petra, including the Siq Canyon, the Treasury Tomb and the huge Qasr El Bint temple.
Day 6 | Head back into the site under your own steam to explore at your leisure. Take in some of the churches near the main street, or for the€tive, head up to The Monastery or Place of High Sacrifice. Dine tonight at Petra Kitchen, a fun-filled evening run by local women where you’re taught more about Jordanian cooking and get to eat the fruits of your labour.
Day 7 | Drive back along part of the Kings Highway over the stunning Mujib Gorge, before descending to the shores of the Dead Sea for a two night stay.
Day 8 | At leisure to relax by the pool, take some spa treatments or perhaps visit the nearby site of Christ’s baptism at Bethany-on-the-Jordan. In the evening, for something a bit different, take a lesson in Italian cooking and pizza making at the Marriott Jordan Valley.
Day 9 | Transfer to Amman Airport for your flight back to the UK.
