This itinerary forms the basis for most trips to Jordan, covering all the major highlights and a few lesser known sights that take you off the standard tourist trail. Beginning in the north of the country to take in Jerash, Ajloun, Amman and the Desert Castles, you then work south along the King’s Highway to the magical city of Petra, with two full days to explore. After a visit to the spectacular Wadi Rum, it’s back north to spend a few days relaxing by the Dead Sea.
Day 1 | Fly to Amman and transfer to your hotel for a three night stay.
Day 2 | A full day tour including the Classical city of Jerash, the Arab castle of Ajloun and the ancient city of Umm Qais, dramatically located with views over the Sea of Galilee.
Day 3 | Begin the day with a tour of the capital, before heading out to the relatively unknown temple Iraq Al-Amir.
Day 4 | Head down the King’s Highway, stopping at Madaba’s mosaics and the impressive Crusader castle of Kerak. Arrive at your Petra hotel for a three night stay.
Day 5 | A tour of the ancient city of Petra, including the Siq Canyon, the Treasury Tomb and the huge Qasr El Bint temple.
Day 6 | Head back into the site under your own steam. Take in some of the churches near the main street, or for the hike up to The Monastery or Place of High Sacrifice.
Day 7 | A jeep tour of the canyons, rock bridges and red sands of mystical Wadi Rum with a local Bedouin driver, before descending to the shores of the Dead Sea for a three night stay.
Days 8-9 | At leisure to relax by the pool, take some spa treatments or perhaps visit the nearby site of Christ’s baptism at Bethany-on-the-Jordan.
Day 10 | Transfer to Amman Airport for your flight back to the UK.
