Rotorua & Napier
From Auckland we head for the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula, where volcanoes have left a legacy of stunning cone-shaped islands and hot water beaches where you can dig your own thermal spa in the sand. We then head to volcanic Rotorua, with its boiling mud-pools and geysers. We'll also get a feel for local culture by staying on a working farm one night and dining with the Maori another night. After enjoying some wine tasting at Hawke's Bay vineyard, we arrive at Napier, the famous art deco city on the east coast. After taking a tour of this fascinating town we head to the island's capital, Wellington.
Whales, dolphins & Fox Glacier
Crossing the Cook Strait and through the beautiful Queen Charlotte Sound, we land at Picton and drive to the coastal town of Kaikoura where we have the opportunity to swim with dolphins - a truly amazing experience. Later we drive (although you can choose to take the Tranz Alpine train - optional) across the 'Southern Alps' to the west coast where we walk to Franz Joseph and Fox Glaciers. Then in Queenstown, New Zealand's adventure capital, the list of options is endless ranging from jet-boating & wine tours to white-water rafting & bungy jumping.
Milford Sound & Dunedin
Travelling via the spectacular Cleddau Valley we reach the dramatic Milford Sound, where we take a cruise through this world-famous glacial valley. From Milford Sound we head to Dunedin where we follow the peninsula high road to view the prolific bird life and stop to admire the huge Moerakai boulders. Later, driving inland once again, we head to Mount Cook where there's the chance to take a scenic helicopter flight for breathtaking views of Mount Cook's (3754m) snowy peak. Finally our journey ends in tranquil Christchurch.
