Blue Lagoon, Glaciers & Volcanoes
Losing no time we head straight from the airport via the thermal waters of the Blue Lagoon. After making a splash here we head on to Iceland's sports capital, Laugarvatn. We base ourselves in this friendly village and explore waterfalls, walk through gorges and visit Thorsmork Nature Reserve - shielded on 3 sides by glaciers and mountains. Laugarvatn sits on an extensive range of hot springs and in our free time here we can choose to swim, have a sauna or hire a boat and row around the lake that takes its name from the town.
Waterfalls & Geysers
Our next stop is Geysir, famous for its Geysers! Here we see the pools erupt into a 30 metre spout of water, an incredible sight. Nearby are the famous waterfalls of Gullfoss; 2 broad cataracts drop into a 50m-deep gorge creating wonderful spray rainbows. A day is spent exploring the Snaefellsnes peninsula, wandering along deserted beaches and through tiny fishing villages, admiring seascapes and the sight of the Snaefellsjokull glacier, where according to Jules Verne's book, the entrance to the centre of the earth can be found.
Fishing trip & Reykjavik
We take to the sea for the morning to spot cormorants, puffins and with luck white-tailed eagles. We pass strings of tiny islands, once home to 'Eric the Red', who discovered Greenland. On our way back there's the chance to try some freshly caught sea food, the best you'll ever have! Driving back to Reykjavik, there's time to discover Iceland's charming capital and the option to venture out to sea again on a whale watching trip.
