Go in search of the Nunavik region’s three star species – polar bear, muskox and caribou. This guided small group adventure (max 8 people), guided by local Inuits, is an excellent alternative to polar voyaging, featuring comfortable hotel€commodation and offering the chance to immerse yourself in the Inuit way of life.
Departing from Montreal, this exclusive Arctic safari includes stays in three remote Inuit settlements that lie along the coastline of Ungava Bay in Nunavik, northern QuÉbec.
Where you stay Unlike other Arctic safaris, on this trip you’ll stay in simple but comfortable hotels located in Inuit communities, giving you the chance to gain a real insight into the way people live in the villages of the far north. All the Co-op hotels and retail stores belong to the FCNQ (La FÉdÉration des coopÉratives du Nouveau-QuÉbec, established in 1967), a co-operative made up of fourteen Inuit communities of the Hudson and Ungava coasts of Northern-QuÉbec, or Nunavik, as this region is now called. The Co-ops are managed exclusively by Inuit and Cree staff, ensuring that the knowledge and experience gained from operating these businesses remain an asset of the community. As well as providing employment for local people, the profits generated by these businesses are returned to the communities to fund training, education and development. This offers the Inuit future opportunities within their own communities, ensuring that these remote regions are able to develop and thrive in the modern world, whilst maintaining a strong sense of identity and culture.
