Feel the breeze pick up and the bow of the boat rise. The sea air feels fresher on the face and youll taste the salt. Pulling slowly out of the harbour then picking up speed out towards the open water, a startled puffin taking to the air in front of you, flapping madly. Rib boats are fast, open speed boats; stable and safe, theyre a lot of fun. We are€companied by professional instructors who know the waters well so we will make the most of our time. It may be possible to have a quick drive if you ask nicely. More sedately, our yacht the Mehalah, is beautifully fitted out and ideal for the first time yachting experience. Since you ask, shes a Sparkman Stevens Custom 47 Performance Cruiser, with a solid fibreglass hull and a beautiful wooden interior, combining modern performance with traditional style. You can relax with a cup of tea or join in crewing, as little or as much as you prefer. We join the boats in the sheltered harbour at Deganwy on the Conwy estuary just above Conwy town. From here we head out into the Irish Sea with the impressive outline of the Great Orme that guards the eastern side of the estuary. From here Anglesey and the opening of the Menai Strait are clearly visible. As we move further out the views of Snowdonia to the south improve moment by moment. We should spend one day on the rib boats and the other day on the yacht. There will be time to call in on your journey and visit local places of interest in between your time on the water.
