ITINERARY BY DAY
Day 1: Hanoi /Mai Chau Lodge
Depart at 8.30am from your hotel and head toward Mai Chau, a destination that some consider a less-visited variation on Sapa. The ride from Hanoi to Mai Chau takes about four hours, and you won’t be bored by the lush scenery. Around noon, you will arrive at Mai Chau Lodge and enjoy a freshly prepared lunch. Kick back and relax this afternoon or take a cycling trip around the countryside.
As you’ll discover, Mai Chau offers a mix of culture and adventure set against one of Vietnam’s most striking backdrops. There are waterfalls, towering limestone mountains, rice paddies, corn fields, bamboo groves and terraced tea plantations. Relax at the lodge, a rustic-but-comfortable retreat with an outdoor pool and Roman-style Jacuzzi. Enjoy a dinner of Vietnamese and international dishes, followed by traditional dancing by members of the local ethnic-minority group.
Day 2: Mai Chau Lodge
After breakfast, head from the lodge into the surrounding tropical countryside to visit a former cave that North Vietnamese soldiers used to store munitions during the Vietnam War. Mai Chau sits near the Vietnam-Laos border, where the North Vietnamese Army shuttled supplies and materiel to fellow troops stationed further south. Discover whether they left any traces behind in this cave.
You will then have the option of visiting a village of the local ethnic-minority group to learn about their lifestyle and farming methods. Lunch will be served either back at Mai Chau Lodge or in the home of a local Thai family. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at the lodge’s pool or sauna, or just reading a good book on the patio.
Day 3 ; Mai Chau Lodge /Hanoi
After breakfast at the lodge, take a gentle trek to Lac and Pom Coong, two villages of the Thai ethnic group. Meet the villagers and enjoy a chat over a cup of tea to learn about their culture and traditions. This is a unique experience where you will get to peek into their homes and watch traditional farming methods up close. Finally, end your Mai Chau Valley Break with lunch at the lodge before returning to Hanoi returning late afternoon.
