Northern Lights & Lake Myvatn, Iceland

From: £1440.00

Holiday overview

Located on the boundary of two divergent plates, the island of Iceland is constantly being added to as lava forms mineral rich soils, which support an exceptional biodiversity. The island’s wildlife is best spotted at Lake Myvatn where an extraordinary number of birds congregate in the warmer months. The nearby hot springs are worth visiting year-round, as is buzzy Reykjavik. It is also one of the best places in the world to see the magical Northern Lights.

Holiday itinerary

Day 1: Reykjavik

Fly from the UK to Keflavik airport, just outside Reykjavik. Spend the rest of the day exploring the world’s northernmost capital.

Days 2-3: Lake Myvatn

After breakfast, transfer to Reykjavik’s domestic airport, located in the city’s downtown area, and fly to Akureyri, from where you’ll be transferred to Lake Myvatn. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of the area and dinner at Sel Hotel Myvatn. The next day head out to explore the shores and surrounding wetlands of Lake Myvatn, a large and shallow eutrophic lake which supports an exceptionally rich ecosystem, thanks to the area’s mineral-rich soil and sparkling volcanicity. Each evening offers the chance to observe the floating forms of the Northern Lights.
