Kemi Icebreaker & Snowcastle

From: £2385.00

Holiday overview

Make the most of winter in Finnish Lapland with this thrilling four-day break, packed with unique and adventurous activities. Throughout your stay you’ll try your hand at snowmobiling and snowshoeing, swim in the icy waters of the Gulf of Bothnia from the bows of an icebreaker and spend a magical night in a castle made of snow.

Holiday itinerary

Day 1: Kemi

Following a flight and a transfer your first day is free to explore the village of Kemi at your own pace before settling down to dinner at your chosen hotel.
Then, in the evening, you’ll have the opportunity to get your adventure under way with an optional snowmobile or snowshoe excursion.

Stay: Hotel Cumulus or Hotel Merihovi

Day 2: The Sampo Icebreaker

After breakfast, you’ll transfer by snowmobile to the port for the start of your Icebreaker Sampo cruise. Once board, you’ll tour the ship's bridge and engine rooms before heading out across the frozen Gulf of Bothnia. For the adventurous, this is the chance to take a dip in the sea. Survival suits are included, but it’s still a bracing experience.
As you return to the relative warmth of dry land, you’ll continue by snowmobile to a Lappish tepee to enjoy refreshments. And if all that wasn’t enough, this evening you’ll have the chance to join in an optional ice fishing trip before returning to your hotel for a good night’s sleep.

Stay: Hotel Cumulus or Hotel Merihovi

Day 3: SnowCastle

Today begins with a husky safari through the frozen forests of Finnish Lapland, warm up with a coffee and snacks around a roaring fire as your guide explains the importance of these good-natured working dogs to life in the frozen north. Lunch is enjoyed in the city centre before an Olokolo ice safari, where pods are pulled by snowmobile across the frozen sea. You’ll then head for Kemi's SnowCastle where you’ll spend the night. Following a guided tour of the hotel and a delicious three-course dinner, you’ll test skills on a kick sledge before retiring to a bed carved out of ice and covered in lambskin and a cosy thermal sleeping bag. Or, if you prefer, spend the night in a new Olokolo ‘pod’. With their glass roofs and views to the night sky, you just might get your own private show of the Northern Lights.

Stay: SnowCastle or Olokolo pod

Day 4: Departure

Following a night on the ice you’ll no doubt enjoy a hearty breakfast served in the SnowCastle Lounge. Once finished, transfer to the airport for your flight home via Helsinki.
