The beguiling architecture of the Baltic capitals provides you with a fairy-tale setting in which to roam. From strolling around buzzing cities and quaint cobbled streets to exploring resplendent castles and crumbling fortresses; discovering world-class museums and little-known gems; this remarkable concoction of the old and the new only adds to the magic of this mesmerising region. A cruise around the Baltic Sea is the perfect way to sample the splendors of Europe’s northern capitals of culture and the Baltic scenery. With an emphasis on sightseeing, wherever possible we take the opportunity to explore the local countryside beyond the historic cities. Our unique shore walks and excursions include: St Petersburg: A city whose golden buildings and treasures leave many people speechless. The view from the Peter and Paul Fortress over the river to The Hermitage is one of the greatest in any city in the world. We visit The Hermitage, Church of The Spilt Blood and St Catherine’s Palace amongst many great sights. Copenhagen: Home to the Little Mermaid, with colourfully painted canal side houses of Nyhavn and the town of Helsingor, home to the setting of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Stockholm: Built on fourteen islands, Stockholm is the perfect place to spend time in the cobbled streets of the old town and the magnificent parklands. Tallinn: Capital of Estonia, Tallinn is an up and coming place, but has a medieval old quarter which is everyone’s idea of the Middle Ages. Helsinki: A local guide walks us through the city and the Toolonlahti Bay Park. We can also visit the fortress island of Suomenlinna. Klaipeda: Situated on the west coast, Klaipeda in Lithuania has an interesting history, having changed hands several times over the years. We explore the diverse range of museums and the UNESCO-Listed Curonian Spit with a local guide. TravemÜnde: We travel inland to the ancient town of LÜbeck and with a local guide spend time exploring this 12th-century gem boasting more than 1000 historical buildings. Riga: Our tour includes Riga Castle, Cathedral and the Powder Tower, the Swedish Gate entrance to the Old Town, gabled houses on Maza Pils Street and the Cat House. Kiel Canal: We sail through the world’s busiest artificial waterway, flowing for about 60 miles/100km and linking the North Sea with the Baltic.
