Many thanks to…

Thanks to Nikon for offering prizes to the questionnaire entrants. Thanks also to everyone who took the time to share their travel highs and lows with us, to give us a true picture of what travellers really think.

How the awards are scored

The Wanderlust Travel Awards were based on your travels from December 2008 to November 2009.

In most categories, readers were asked to list up to four entries (eg countries visited) and score each one on its merits. The final positions are based on an average score for the entry (converted to a percentage) – so the results are based on satisfaction rather than the number of votes received.

In the other categories (eg top travel personality) we simply counted the number of votes to determine the outcome; and in the newly introduced Special Awards, the winners were elected, wholly undemocratically, by the Wanderlust team
