After dead-wrong barbecue summer and mild winter predictions, do you put any faith in Met Office long-range forecasts?

WANDERLUST TRAVEL PHOTO OF THE YEAR

Wanderlust Travel Photo of the Year

The UK's most prestigious annual travel photography contest

Wanderlust Travel Photo Of The Year

Launched in 1996, the Wanderlust Travel Photo of the Year competition is the UK's most prestigious annual travel photography award, open to amateur and professional photographers. The awards attract over 5,000 entries every year and are judged by a world-class panel of professional photographers and travel experts.

We had stacks of entries for the 2009 outing of our annual photography competition, and the standard was as breathtaking as ever. Our top team of judges had their work cut out, but managed to award each of the four Amateur category winners a wonderful photo commission to the Quito region of Ecuador.

The winning photos were revealed at Destinations London on Friday 5 February and exhibited there. Winning and shortlisted photos will be exhibited at Destinations Birmingham NEC.

The results will also be printed in the March 2010 issue of Wanderlust magazine, The Independent newspaper, as well as galleries on wanderlust.co.uk

Prizes and once-in-a-lifetime photography trips to be won!

The top prize winners in the Amateur category will be off to Quito on a photo commission, exploring the city and the surrounding regions. Quito Tourism (www.quito.com.ec) and LAN will whisk the top photographer in each of the four amateur categories (and a friend) to the Quito region on a mission to capture some of its magic.

Photos in the Amateur category are divided into four categories: People, Wildlife, Landscape or Travel Icons – classic shots of places, events and people that have achieved an iconic visual status in the world of travel.

The Portfolio category was open to both amateur and professional photographers. Here, we’re after a set of five eye-catching images, all themed to fit one of the four main categories. The winner will walk away with £5,000.
