Gets my vote too. And, as Helen suggests, just look at the gorgeous sky!

Thanks Sophie / Helen / Liz.

The thing is, the actual effect when I was there was probably somewhere in between the two photos - but perhaps nearer to this one.

Maybe I should have indulged in more subtle photoshoppery.

The colour enhancement does give the photo more impact though. If I had just posted the original I don't think many would have noticed it. I know I tend to notice photos more if they have in-yer-face colours.

This version gets my vote too, though as Jamie says it can depend an awful lot on the calibration of your monitor as to what the colours in an image look like.

Like DrG most of my photos on here have gone through Elements (unlike him I can't afford the full photoshop) if only to adjust the brightness, contrast, levels, crop bits out and resize the image. I still shoot in jpeg, though have recently got a camera that handles RAW. All that processing takes a lot of time though. I'm with Steve here that I prefer the actual composition of a photo rather than the technical elements of the camera.

After all, a good camera and good understanding of the WB, aperture, shutter speed etc doesn't necessarily produce a good photo.

I am totally agree with u that composition comes first then the rest. But sometimes its very hard to get what u want from that composition if ur camera settings are in auto shooting mode where no such liberty is there to adjust elements according to the ambience.Thats why I just suggests Steve to use the manual mode instead of auto one,if he finds any difference betwn the two.

This original photo is no-doubt far better than the photoshopped one.I too believe in keeping the photo as much as real it could be.

    Cheers !!!

Lot of common sense here folks - no chat of sliding round curves, dodging things, and burning the backside off yr photo! I too would far prefer this photo - my critique usually is summed in the simple maxim: Is this what the photograper really saw? Hence composition is the key as Vk says - all that burning edges, flattening, HRDing PACK-aging etc etc is DSTROY-ing what you might eventually find if you visit that location....

So I'm agreeing with  all basics of this photoshopery (am copyrighting that, ha!!)  coming to fore as Sophie talked of elsewhere - brightening, contrasting and maybe wee bit of cropping....

    Cheers all....Nice shot Steve....
