Mountain/Desert/Ocean/Jungle... which one are you?
Ocean – I’ve loved diving into water for as long as I can remember. Although mountain is creeping up...

What was your first great travel experience?
Travelling around the south coast of England one school half term with three friends in an old Ford Fiesta, sleeping in the car most nights.

What has been your favourite journey?
Camping down the West Coast of Australia with my wife and mate Riant in a rusty old Mitsubishi 4x4 called Jim with broken air conditioning and five CDs on repeat on the stereo.

What are your Top 5 places worldwide?
Kimberley, Australia Marlborough, New Zealand Amalfi, Italy Kyoto, Japan Scotland's islands

Recommend a special place to stay
The temple at Koya San in Japan – you get some much needed contemplative time away from the stresses of modern life, as well as the chance to attend Buddhist prayer services and eat some incredible vegetarian food.

Which three items do you always pack?
Passport Penknife One particular sweatshirt that can double as a towel or a blanket

Which passport stamp are you proudest of?
Hutt River Principality in Western Australia, which acceded from Australia in 1970 and is ruled by the charming Prince Leonard and Princess Shirley.

Which passport stamp would you most like to have?
North Korea has always intrigued me.

Where or what is your guilty travel pleasure?
Local supermarkets.
